How To Create Curb Appeal Before You $ELL Your Home |
|
Begin with standing out at the street with a pen and paper and take a good look at your property with the eye of a Buyer. Be aware of what you notice in the first 30 seconds. Make notes. Take a second look and note everything that you feel could use some attention. From these notes, create a mini budget. Get an idea of the cost of improving the look of your home. You will be surprised at how little it will really take to obtain a noticeable improvement. |
- Check the flower gardens. If they are not in good shape, invest in some annuals petunias, geraniums, and begonias are good examples of inexpensive but showy additions. Edge the gardens, keep the weeds pulled, water and enjoy until you move.
- Look at the garage doors. Are they aligned? Do they need paint or stain? Do they lock properly? If they have automatic openers, are the controls handy?
- Look at the front door. What does it say about your home? Does it need paint? Does it close properly? Does the lock work? Is the screen door in good shape?
- Get rid of the yard junk!! All of the things that you have been meaning to move for so long are now liabilities to you.
- Make the yard appear as large as possible. Cut and trim bushes and trees.
- Check the gutters and remove leaves and debris. Make sure the down pipes are secure and in good shape.
- Check your deck and patio. Are they level and in good repair? Painting or staining the deck may be the biggest job you have, but it can sell a Buyer.
- Wash the windows and repair or replace any damaged screens.
- If the driveway is paved, a 5-gallon pail of water sealer will give it a fresh look. If your driveway is interlocking stone give it a bath to remove grease and stains. If it is gravel, a light dusting of limestone will pack it down and give it a clean look.
