Lead Based Paint is a concern in many homes build prior to 1978.

Lead was used extensively as a pigment until the 1960s but was not banned until 1978. Some estimates predict that as many as 80% of homes built before 1978 contain some lead based paint.

Testing for the presence of lead based paint in a house may involve a number of methods to test for lead dust and chipped or flaking lead based paint.

There are a number of ways lead based paint may be removed or encapsulated, ask your Realtor for the information pamphlet, and consider having homes built prior to 1978 that appear to have original paint tested.
