How To Avoid Common Mistakes When Selling Your Home |
- POOR PRESENTATION: Choose your Realtor carefully. This is a serious business transaction and you need a professional.
- POOR TIMING: Learn about the current market. Ask your Realtor how the trends are moving and evaluate if this is the right time to be selling your home and moving your family.
- REQUIRED LEGALITIES IGNORED: Find a good lawyer. Ask friends, relatives, and business associates for a referral.
- UNKNOWN HISTORY: Locate all bills for taxes, water, power, gas, etc. Make them available.
- UNNECESSARY UPGRADES: Objectively evaluate any repairs that your property may require. Do only those that will give you a return on your investment.
- POOR FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Discuss as a family what each member will be responsible for so that your showings are a success.
- UNECESSARY SURPRISES: Ask your Realtor to take you through a typical offer and have him/her explain your role in the transaction.
- FALSE EXPECTATIONS: Examine your closing costs so that you know the funds required to close the transaction and the dollars credited to you from that sale.
